Hiking up the falls path at South Mountains State Park in Connelly, North Carolina, even with the diminished flow on this hot summer day, the water finds a way to wind down the mountain rocks and create this beautiful little rest stop along the way.
Beauty is everywhere. Sometimes it hits you in the face; you can't miss it. Other times, you have to go looking for it. But always, no matter where you are, you can find something of beauty. I love the grand landscape, the engaging smile, the cute baby. But even more, I love to find the beauty in the ordinary; the mundane; the thing you just walked past without a glance. If I can make you reconsider; to think about the magnificence of the ordinary - that makes me happy.

The soft light filtering into this green glade is lovely. Your capture of the water spilling over the big boulders is beautiful, Joni. f/l
Joni Eskridge replied:
Thanks Ann. There is a picture of the upper falls at South Mountains taken one year in early spring - and it looked like a "real" waterfall. This was taken last spring and because there hadn't been much rain, and, I suspect there had been some rockslides in between, the upper fall was barely a trickle, and this was the lower fall. It wasn't mighty, but with the lush green of spring and afternoon sunlight, it was beautiful and soothing. A lot of land in this park burned in the fall fires this past year. One of the bridges we crossed to get to the falls fell to the flames. Not sure what it will look like next time I'm there. Glad you enjoyed this view. Thanks for the visit.
