A large group of Ring-beaked gulls gather on the beach on Topsail Island in north Carolina one late-fall morning. When I saw this, it made me think of the first exercise class after New Year's Day. Big bellies, disorganized, legs that go everywhere but where they're supposed to go, people hiding in the back embarrassed they don't know what they're supposed to do. Been there, done that! Made me laugh.
Beauty is everywhere. Sometimes it hits you in the face; you can't miss it. Other times, you have to go looking for it. But always, no matter where you are, you can find something of beauty. I love the grand landscape, the engaging smile, the cute baby. But even more, I love to find the beauty in the ordinary; the mundane; the thing you just walked past without a glance. If I can make you reconsider; to think about the magnificence of the ordinary - that makes me happy.
