In April of 2012 a derecho (a derecho is a widespread, long-lived, straight-line wind storm that is associated with a land-based, fast-moving group of severe thunderstorms) hit the Chicagoland area, including the western suburb in which I live. The destruction was severe. After the storm passed, I walked around the neighborhood simply amazed by the water and downed trees certainly it was not tornado grade destruction, but people were standing out in their yards and on the streets of the neighborhood trying to take it all in and figure out how to clean up or make repairs. About Joni Eskridge
Beauty is everywhere. Sometimes it hits you in the face; you can't miss it. Other times, you have to go looking for it. But always, no matter where you are, you can find something of beauty. I love the grand landscape, the engaging smile, the cute baby. But even more, I love to find the beauty in the ordinary; the mundane; the thing you just walked past without a glance. If I can make you reconsider; to think about the magnificence of the ordinary - that makes me happy.

I love this shot. I want to jump on the path and see where it goes. The eeriness of the woods in the background adds an element of the unknown as to what might be ahead. Love it.

Thanks Michael. I am glad to have this area close by, and walk through it often. A couple weeks ago, I was walking the path and saw about five deer hidden in the brush. I had my dog and no camera and as soon as they noticed my, they took off. I never did see them clearly, but it was fun to catch a glimpse. I have a number of photos in my portfolio taken in this same marsh area. It's a wonderful place to hang out.
