High atop the hills of historic Galena, Illinois sits this beautiful old building which used to house the Galena High School - but now, instead, houses condos. Oft photographed, the overcast and stormy sky here gives a different take on the usual image.
Galena was one of the richest river towns in the Midwest by the middle of the 19th Century. But the lead ran out and the Galena River silted up, sending the town into a century-long decline.
Today the town still looks much like it did when Ulysses Grant worked in his father's store on Main Street. One of my favorite places to visit in Illinois!

Beauty is everywhere. Sometimes it hits you in the face; you can't miss it. Other times, you have to go looking for it. But always, no matter where you are, you can find something of beauty. I love the grand landscape, the engaging smile, the cute baby. But even more, I love to find the beauty in the ordinary; the mundane; the thing you just walked past without a glance. If I can make you reconsider; to think about the magnificence of the ordinary - that makes me happy.
