Artist's Description
The newer Cape Henry lighthouse towers over the old lighthouse at Fort Henry in Virginia under cloudy sky.
According to the Preservation Viginia website, the Cape Henry Lighthouse:
Was the first federally funded lighthouse. It was built to guide maritime commerce at the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay.
It stands near the "First Landing" site where English settlers arrived in 1607.
Stood sentinel since it was completed in 1792.
Was authorized by George Washington and overseen by Alexander Hamilton.
Was designed by New York architect John McComb.
Was In active use for nearly a century before being replaced by a new cast iron lighthouse still standing nearby.
It is one of the oldest surviving lighthouses in the United States.
About Joni Eskridge

Beauty is everywhere. Sometimes it hits you in the face; you can't miss it. Other times, you have to go looking for it. But always, no matter where you are, you can find something of beauty. I love the grand landscape, the engaging smile, the cute baby. But even more, I love to find the beauty in the ordinary; the mundane; the thing you just walked past without a glance. If I can make you reconsider; to think about the magnificence of the ordinary - that makes me happy.
