Description
I love fallen trees and dead trees. Yes, I like living trees a lot too, but there's just something about the fallen and dead warriors of the forest that draw me to them. Sometimes, like this time, it is the textures and mosses on the tree and the pieces around it; other times, it's the smooth barreness of a branchless, leafless trunk standing in defiance.
This particular tree was laying at rest in a Door County Wisconsin forest near Baileys Harbor.
Don't rush your visit; linger awhile and take it all in. Notice the mosses and the plants, the worn wood and the textured wood; the variation in the color when the bark is stripped away; the way the light filters in across the shadows; the hole left by a torn away branch providing shelter to some unknown scurrying insects, no doubt. Notice the broken branches and bits of bark laying in the foreground.
Linger, don't rush; and I Hope you enjoy the textures and light of the forest, as I did on my fall hike.
