Description
The Craggy Mountains, part of the Blue Ridge Mountains in western North Carolina, are shrouded in fog on this fall day. Visible on the left is the Craggy Pinnacle Tunnel - the shortest tunnel on the Blue Ridge Parkway, at 176 feet. When the tunnel was being built, it was decided to tunnel through, rather than build around the mountain (as was done at the Linn Cove Viaduct). Workers used dynamite to blast through the stone, but used elbow grease for everything else.
