Description
In the backyard I am frequently entertained by the birds, squirrels and chipmunks that hang around. During the fall when the wildlife are all trying to prepare for the coming winter, this little chipmunk figured out how to climb the sheherd's hook pole and jump into this red tray hovering 5 feet above the ground to stuff his little cheeks to the max with safflower seeds. Then he would jump from the tray to the pole, run down and go to his hiding place and unload his cheeks, then turn around and go for another load.
It took me awhile to figure out where my safflower seed was disappearing so quickly; but when I saw this, I just had to laugh.

Ha! Joni, I have chipmunks that live under my garage and I know this full stuffed cheek look very well. Made me smile and dream about summer! Beautiful composition too! :-) Maggie

Thanks Mesa! He is kinda cute, isn't he - and he has that "caught red-handed" look, don't you think? Appreciate your visit and taking time to comment Mesa!

Oh he is so cute! Love it! l/f
Joni Eskridge replied:
Thanks Liesl. I have another chipmunk (or the same one?) engaging in the same behavior this year. I grabbed some shots of him yesterday filling his cheeks before running back down the pole. Different feeder, but same behavior. So fun to watch!
