Description
The bed and breakfast we like to stay at when visiting Galena, Illinois is a few miles outside of town, tucked back in the woods, overlooking the shore of the Mississippi River. To get there, you have to traverse winding roads over the river and through the woods. With the large population of deer in the area, it can be a hair raising experience. On this early December afternoon, urging my husband to drive carefully, I turned my head and saw this deer, quite close to the road. A quick push of the shutter gives me a nice reminder of why I keep saying "slow down!"

I don't know how you got the deer to pose so well! Beautiful photo!
Joni Eskridge replied:
Ha! Thanks Janet. My husband and I were driving slowly through some back roads near Galena, Illinois because it was deer hunting season and we had already had several deer running in front of our car. I had my camera in hand because a picture like this was on my "bucket" list. I looked to the side and told my husband to stop, this deer was standing just a little bit back from the side of the road in the woods and looked up at us. I was somewhat contorted in the car because it stopped past where I would have liked. I would have liked a sharper shot, but was happy to get exactly the shot I was looking for, if not the quality. Glad you enjoyed it.
