Description
It is extremely difficult, if not impossible to tell a male and female Great Blue Heron apart by just looking at them. In this shot, mom (or dad) has their head in the air, rising above the tussling going on between the siblings in this crowded Great Blue Heron nest. The new young herons have gotten quite large, but not yet ready to leave the nest. All those boney appendages and feathers make for some heated exchanges and beak snapping. What's a mother (or father) to do?

Wonderful photograph of a nest full of Great Blue Heron chicks almost ready to fly off, with great pose, colors, perspective, and composition, Joni! F/L
