Description
Known by many different names: Bubby bush, Eastern Sweetshrub, Sweet Betsy, to list a few, the Carolina Allspice (Calycanthus Floridus) has reddish-brown flowers that have a banana-strawberry fragrance. The leaves, when crushed, also have a pleasant aroma to them. Both can be used to make potpourris. I came across this particular bush on the side of the road during my morning walk, in early spring, in western North carolina.
